Four adjectives I own.
Experienced
I started getting paid to write while getting my degree at the University of Toronto. I’ve written for most of my life, and my employers have been many. I have written decision papers for prominent bankers, healthcare plans for pharmacy chains, cybersecurity analyses for service providers, and medical copy for stem cells, hormone therapy, and medical spas.
I’m slightly nomadic. I grew up on a farm in Alberta and have lived in seven cities in Canada and the United States. For the past twenty years, LA has been my home.
Thoughtful
Being sensitive has been my contextual curse. The degree in biomedical ethics only exacerbated that trait, making it challenging to fit expectations. I find those who express rigid thinking fascinating because I can’t see the world without lots of color. I love fluidity in ideas, and when I find one to believe in, I stay focused on it almost to the point of obsession.
Reflective
I’m a contradiction of sorts. I seek quiet yet talk incessantly, have spent years putting the city and farm together, and still wonder how to teach those who live in one to get close to the other. I find empathy to be the best elixir and self-regard to be a toxin.
Passionate
As a creative writer, I love reaching into the soul and seeing what’s there. As a non-fiction writer, I’m a bit of a how-to guy. My latest book, the first one not as a ghostwriter and under my name, is a guide to protecting medical privacy if you change your gender.
